The Emoji Poems is both an experiment in translation and a simple collection of discrete lyric poems. The poems were originally written by Carina Finn in “Emoji,” a 722-character pictorial language, downloadable on iPhones and other electronic devices. Stephanie Berger translated them into English.
Stephanie Berger is the Executive Director of The Poetry Society of New York, co-founder of the New York City Poetry Festival, and Creator/Madame of The Poetry Brothel. Stephanie’s poetry has appeared in Fence, Interim, La Fovea, H_NGM_N, and Coconut, among other publications, and she published a chapbook, In The Madame’s Hat Box, on Dancing Girl Press. She works as an art gurl at Artnet and teaches in the English Department at Pace University.
Carina Finn is the author of LEMONWORLD & Other Poems (Co.Im.Press, 2013), MY LIFE IS A MOVIE (Birds of Lace, 2012) and I HEART MARLON BRANDO (Wheelchair Party Press, 2010). Her work has appeared in TYPO, SUPERMACHINE, PANK, Storyglossia, and elsewhere. She holds an MFA in Poetry from the University of Notre Dame, writes for Montevidayo, and lives in New York City, where she sporadically curates The Bratty Poets Series. Along with fellow poet Stephanie Berger, she is a member of the all-girl electrofolk trio, The London Skul of Economics.
